COURSE CURRICULUM:

GRADUATE CERTIFICATE:

CLINICAL LASER THERAPY AND INTENSE PULSED LIGHT
FOR DERMATOLOGY AND SCAR REPAIR
(21712VIC)

Nationally Recognised Training

COURSE AIM

Familiarity with dermatology by a wide circle of healthcare professionals has now become necessary, due to the increasing number of individuals presenting with non infectious skin conditions, hypersensitivities and chronic skin disorders, including photo ageing of the skin.

This accredited graduate certificate course focuses on the clinical management of the skin, in conjunction with the nutritional deficiencies relating to dermatological conditions, accelerated ageing and delayed healing and the biological and physiological effects that can occur when the bio-electrical conduction of energy within the cell and tissues is reduced or disturbed. The underpinning theoretical science and hands on practical tuition in clinical low intensity laser therapy and intense pulsed light phototherapy enables health professionals to successfully treat a wide variety of skin and scar conditions at a remedial level, in addition to providing effective pain control and accelerated healing following plastic and cosmetic surgery.

This is a nationally recognised training course accredited by The Victorian Qualifications Authority. General Medical Practitioners may apply individually to the RACGP for quality assurance and CPD points.

WHAT CLIENTS ARE SAYING ABOUT LOW INTENSITY LASER THERAPY (LILT)

BURN SCARS - L. HUGUENIN - VIC.
I sustained burns to 30% of my back and arms during the Bali Bombing. The doctors have queried how my skin was healing
so much faster than the other patients who were burnt at the same time. The scars became smoother with the laser therapy,
and I didn’t have to rely on pressure garments so much. It also made a huge difference in diminishing the redness of the scars and helped return normal pigment to the scar.’

DARIERS SKIN DISEASE - J. STEVENS - VIC.
Jade’s mother said that at 10 years of age Jade developed a rare skin disorder called Dariers disease, causing red, raised and
sore patches on her chest, back and face. Despite opinions from dermatologists and courses of steroids and other powerful
medications, her problem only worsened. Jade is now 14 and has had six months of laser therapy, with Tina Czech at the
Australian Institute of Laser Therapy. Jade is a completely different girl now , her condition is barely noticeable. All the
redness, dryness and lumpiness has gone and jade is now able to wear T-shirts and tops she could never have worn before.

BREAST REDUCTION SCARS - VIC.
I had a breast reduction 8 yrs ago and was very pleased with the immediate overall result. Unfortunately I developed abnormal
scarring in the incision around the areola of my left breast, which continued to become thicker and wider. My plastic surgeon
was very caring and explained that this can sometimes happen in people with my type of olive skin. I had several steroid
injections into the scars, but there was only minor improvement and when I asked if he could surgically remove the excess
scarring, he said he could, but there was no guarantee that my skin would not react in the same way again, so the safer option
was to leave things alone and hopefully the scar may improve by itself over time. Well it's been 8 years and it's still there. Then I read an article in the newspaper about Ms Tina Czech who specialises in non invasive scar repair using low intensity laser therapy and I decided to visit the Australian Institute of Laser Therapy.

After a thorough discussion with Ms Czech I decided to commence treatment and after 25 laser therapy sessions over a 3
month period my scarred areola gradually transformed in appearance and colour. Tina said, that my scar tissue had
responded, well and would continue to diminish over the next 3 to 6 months without further laser treatment and it did, without
any burning or pain and no further risk of making it worse. I returned to my surgeon to show him and he too was amazed. I
only wish I had known about this type of non thermal laser therapy when I originally had my operation. Thankyou!

PRACTITIONER COMMENTS

DR. MARILYN GOLDEN - MB,ChB (UCT)SA. Grad. Cert. Chinese Herb Med. Grad.Dip Clin Nutr. Dip Homeopath - NSW
I am a general practitioner with qualifications in clinical nutrition, homeopathy, herbal medicine and Chinese herbal medicine.
Many of my patients present with chronic disease and chronic pain.

I have used Low Intensity Laser Therapy ( LILT) to treat a wide variety of disorders, including bone fracture, arthritis, facial
burns, psoriasis, sunburn, skin regneration (anti-ageing) and post operative pain. It is a most valuable treatment modality.

CAROLINE COOTES - Dip H. Sci. B.T. - VIC
I completed my training at AILT in 1998 and purchased my first therapeutic laser system soon after . Since then I have
purchased another two lasers and transformed my business into a clinic working at a remedial level with skin . Not only has
introducing LILT to my business increased my turnover substantially, it has also given my staff and I a great professional
satisfaction. All my staff have attended laser training so we could provide this therapy to more people with chronic skin
conditions and scarring and we are proud to say that we have had wonderful success with three patients who sustained burn
injuries in the Bali bombing. I thoroughly recommend LILT and the training at AILT to anyone looking for a therapeutic modality that will take their business to a higher level.

ROBERT KENDALL - A. Ac., Dip. Med. Herb. - QLD
I have been using low intensity laser therapy in my clinic since June 2004 after training with Australian Institute of Laser
Therapy. I am a qualified acupuncturist and regularly use laser to stimulate acupuncture points, and this has made my work
much easier and relieves the stress of working with needles on children. It is excellent for ear acupuncture and difficult areas
to needle such as the head, feet and hands especially for people who are ‘needle shy’. The laser quickly relieves painful muscle and joint conditions, particularly arthritis, and accelerates tissue repair and recovery after sporting injuries.
Overall, low intensity laser therapy has become a valuable clinical tool, broadening our range of treatments.
